Who is God and Why does it Matter to Us -- The Attributes of God
I believe that knowing who and what God is is the foundation for the Christian life. It is what will keep us on a constant spiritual and emotional growth throughout all of our lives. When hard times hit, our feet will be on the solid rock of God rather than on circumstances. Therefore, we will not be thrown into great highs and lows. We do not trust strangers so how can we trust God if we do not know Him?
The text is meant to be used with the PowerPoint slides.

Developing Great Relationships
You will probably notice that even though my Sunday School class is eleven weeks long there are only seven studies listed here. That is because each study would last around one and a half classes.
You will also notice that there are only two handouts for this series. That is because rather than pass out a handout for every class, each of these two handouts is for one half of the class. One reason for this was because I never knew how far I would get in the class and so I did not know ahead of time where I would finish.
Almost all of the material in these studies comes from my book "Developing Great Relationships" that you can either download or view for free on this website or you can download it on Kindle. A lot of the material on forgiveness comes from Lewis Smedes, "Forgive and Forget."

Jesus Himself Alone
This Bible study series covers six key aspects of Jesus' life: His fulfilling OT prophecies, Deity, Incarnation, Miracles, Prayers, and Crucifixion.
For the handout, I created one large handout that I gave to everyone at the beginning of the first class.Since I did not know exactly what I would complete in any one session I felt that it was easier this way.

Spiritual Gifts
This Bible Study is about how to determine what spiritual gift(s) you might have. Unlike the other Bible Study Serieses on this page which are ten to twelve weeks in length, this one is more like three weeks. It consists of the two studies. During the second study the questionnaire is passed out to each member of the group, completed, and then scored.
Though the entire subject of tongues and prophecy are controversial, I believe that they still exist today. I do not see anywhere in Scripture that says that they went away. However, I do believe that they are not as pervasive (universal) as some require. Nor do I believe that they are necessary to prove salvation nor to be saved. If you do not think that tongues or prophecy are gifts that are still active then feel free to adjust the questionnaire as you see fit.

A New Creation - Who we are in Christ
When we are born-again it is not just that we are given a membership to the church nor is it that we are merely guaranteed a ticket on the glory train to Heaven. It is much more--we are transformed.
This study is going to look at how we are given new perspectives, new desires, and new meaning. We are indeed a new creation.
Though this study is 12 weeks long it is all in one document rather than 12 separate files.

What does Everyone Believe? - Comparative Religion
Two thirds of the world does believe in Christianity. Does that matter? It matters a great deal. In this study we will look at Hinduism, Buddhism, and Islam and how they compare to Christianity and how does one share the Gospel with people in these groups.
We will look at the history and beliefs of each religion and how we should respond to those beliefs.
Though this study is 12 weeks long it is all in one document rather than 12 separate files.
Since this was originally posted, I have added a new section on religious Nones (aka the Unaffiliated).

How to get the most out of Studying the Bible
You read the Bible over and over and most of the time you get nothing new out of it. God rarely speaks to you. In this study you will learn techniques and resources that will open up God's word to you. This study is going to take a very common passage and, by going verse by verse, learn various ways to dig deeper and hear what God wants to personally teach you. We will see how the Bible can come alive for you and by you.
How to make the Bible come alive by learning how to dig deep and mine the many treasures of God' word.
Though this study is 12 weeks long it is all in one document rather than 12 separate files.

Titus 2:6-10: Developing Godly Character
This is a one-time study for a preaching class where each person was assigned a passage in Titus. I got Titus 2:6-10
and decided to develop the theme of developing godly character.
The pictures were printed on paper and stapled to cardboard to keep them from flopping over when I held them up.
The embosser mentioned at the end is something that you probably do not have and you may not want to buy one just
for this. You can try using anything that will push an image into a piece of paper like perhaps a ring with a design
on it.

End Times and the Bible
The End Times is the second most common theme in the Bible second only to salvation. There are many views on how to interpret the Scriptures. In this study we are going to examine the three major overall perspectives of End Times passages: Preterist, Historicism, Idealism, and Futurist. We will also look at the various Millennial interpretations: Amillennial, Pre-Millennial, and Post-Millennial. Then we will study the major Rapture theories: Pre-Tribulation, Partial, Mid-Tribulation, Pre-Wrath, and Post-Tribulation.
We will compare the Rapture to the Second Coming, look at the the timing of the major resurrections, and Israel vs. the church. We will study the antichrist, the false prophet, Daniel's dreams, and where do people actually go when they die.
We will take an indepth look at the 70 weeks in Daniel 9.
Finally we will go through the book of Revelation ending with one of the most glorious events in eternal history: The Second Coming of Jesus Christ.
This study is not predictive. It is not alarmist. It takes a serious look at the Scriptures and attempts to discern what God is saying.
I personally believe in a Pre-Millennial, Pre-Tribulation interpretation, but I try to present a fair examination of all views.

Imitating Jesus Part 1
As Christians, we have the best opportunity to make our lives count for eternity. We can be greater than champion sports figures, the most powerful politicians, and the most popular celebrities. We can pattern our lives after Jesus Christ.
In this study we are going to consider how to imitate several character qualities of Jesus. For each one we will first study a short Gospel story. We will look at the background, who is involved, what is happening, and how Jesus responded to the situation. We will then look at attitudes and ways to incorporate that same response and character quality in ourselves. The qualities that we expect to examine are compassion, righteousness, forgiveness, and communicating via story.
What better way to honor God than to strive to be like Him?

Imitating Jesus Part 2
People try to imitate great sports heroes, celebraties, artists, musicians, trail blazers, and many other well known people. But God will give us the power and grace to imitate the greatest person who ever walked upon this earth--Jesus Christ.
The qualities that we will examine are resisting temptation, determining God's will and seeing people and not projects.
What better way to honor God than to strive to be like Him?

Suffering: A Heavenly Lament and a Confident Victory
Suffering can have many faces: betrayal, loneliness, abuse, death, and more. It can be relentless and take over our thoughts, our motives, our physical abilities, our lives. And it can linger like a brick in our chest for years or even a lifetime. But we are not a people of hopelessness. We are not a people of despair. We are people of resurrection. Our trials are not our grave. We have a firm and assured hope. Optimism says “Don’t worry, it probably won’t happen.” Hope says, “It may happen, but God will keep us.” This study is going to examine a number of topics including:
The Bible does not give us a glass of water to temporarily quench our thirst. It gives us an ocean of knowledge so that we can more than endure. So that we can have confident victory.
